The Archaeologists Guide to Good Practice hand book is an on-line resource that records common best practices for the interpretation of archaeological excavations. It focusses on stratigraphic analysis and dating.
The hand book was developed by a team of Kenneth Aitchison, Keith May, James Taylor and Doug Rocks-Macqueen funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council in the UK in 2023 and 2024. Their work is the result of a wide consultation across the archaeological industry.
The handbook records details of:
Stratigraphic relationships
Creating groups and subgroups of contexts
Phasing
Dating and Periodisation
Land use
Writing Stratigraphic reports
The handbook is relevant to Anchurus II because it provides an industry-wide overview of many of the features supported by the system.
